Duration: Mar 2022 - Sept 2022

My individual contribution

The design and construction of the multilingual website for DBM Partners, showcasing their cybersecurity services in France, China, and the United Kingdom, was a project driven by the imperative to establish a seamless online presence across diverse linguistic landscapes. Recognizing the global nature of cybersecurity challenges, our objective was to create a platform that not only effectively communicated the technical prowess of DBM Partners but also transcended language barriers to reach a wider audience in the distinct markets of France, China, and the UK.

CLIENT DETAILS

Understanding the company.

DBM Partners is a project which from its birth aims to be transgressive. Wishing to bring together the best talents in a community of ideas and values that resemble us, we have chosen to develop a corporate culture exclusively focused on people, whether they are employees, partners or customers. DBM Partners also devotes more than 15% of its payroll and capital to research and innovation in cybersecurity, in order to best support our consultants when they work with clients.

We also consider that taboos in business are an obstacle to both human development and the growth of the structure, and that it is by saying things clearly that we will be able to move things forward more than by promises.

PRIMARY PERSONA TYPES

Within DBM Partners Cyber Security, the delineation of different personas dictates the extent of control and privileges a user holds as an individual contributor or team member. Notably, distinctions in roles determine the scope of responsibilities and access within the platform.

For instance, security administrators, designated as team owners, wield comprehensive authority. They possess the capability to manage and modify security libraries, oversee followers, and collaborate seamlessly with team members. Team owners also hold the pivotal power to assign edit rights to collaborators, thereby enabling them to assume the role of security admins. It’s crucial to note that security admins, while vested with significant responsibilities, lack the authority to remove team owners. Nonetheless, they retain the ability to demote collaborators, adjusting their standing within the security team. This structured hierarchy within DBM Partners Cyber Security ensures a cohesive and secure environment, where varying levels of permissions accorded to each persona contribute to effective team management and robust collaboration in the realm of cybersecurity.

Anatomy of a library.

Library colour swatches

Library colour swatches Libraries come with multiple customisable components. One of the main customisation options is the ability to change the primary library color. The primary colour will be reflected when users view the library card and further more, when the user clicks into the library card to view the content within.

Map Features to needs

Mapping features to needs on a website involves a strategic alignment between the functionality of the site and the specific requirements of its users. This process requires a thoughtful analysis of user needs, preferences, and objectives, followed by the integration of corresponding features that address these aspects.

Using Evidence Based Guidelines

Implementing evidence-based guidelines on a website involves incorporating recommendations and best practices that are supported by empirical evidence and research. By closely aligning website features with user needs, developers can enhance the overall user experience, ensuring that visitors can easily find, interact with, and derive value from the offered content or services.

Accessibility Checklist

Conducting a weekly accessibility check across all languages was a crucial part of my responsibilities, ensuring that the website was finely tuned to meet the needs of diverse users. This proactive approach involved a meticulous examination of the site’s design, content, and functionalities to guarantee that it adhered to accessibility standards across different languages. Beyond a routine task, this practice reflected a commitment to inclusivity and user-centric design.
USER INTERFACE 01

GLOBAL AUDIENCE

The site was for a global audience so it was important to research the appropriate target markets and build personas on the type of end-users that would visit the website.

Weekly analytics report

I created a weekly performance and UX report to define the areas of the website that needed adjusting. Large icons and a reduction in text were recommended as a means to improve user understanding and conversion on the website.
USER INTERFACE 02

Multilingual Website

The site was in a relatively unfinished condition when I was given the job of reinvigorating it, I had to re-design all the icons and banners on the site to make it more readable and also fill in content for the services section.

Helpful use of language
Accessibility review

Many of the links were broken and user flow was not easy to navigate to the companies key selling points, I tried to address these in the re-design.

KEY FINDINGS

Measuring success.

“Branching out into a foreign market is not an easy task. Working on DBMs international brand truly transformed the meaning of collaboration for me. Not only did I put complete trust in the team, but also felt an extreme amount of responsibility because I knew that we all depended on each other to make the best product possible for our users”.

What I did well

Taking the lead on a compelling challenge, our team at DBM International embarked on a mission that held substantial value. Establishing a cohesive team that not only comprehended the mission but was also wholeheartedly dedicated to crafting a meaningful international product was truly remarkable. For an uninterrupted span of five months, our weekends became dedicated workdays as we collaborated passionately on the development of the DBM International website.

Consistency emerged as a cornerstone of our approach, distinguishing our efforts. In the realm of side projects, it’s tempting to slow down or halt progress when unexpected life events occur. However, our commitment to maintaining a steady pace and ensuring accountability in achieving our weekly goals was pivotal. We fostered an environment where every team member upheld their responsibilities, keeping the momentum alive. What stands out is our collective ability to motivate one another during challenging phases and the dedication to pause and celebrate during moments of triumph. This consistent and supportive ethos propelled the successful evolution of the DBM International website, a testament to our team’s resilience and shared commitment to the project’s success.

What I would do differently

Looking back, I realize the missed opportunity of not expediting the deployment of a prototype into the hands of users. In hindsight, I acknowledge that constructing a digital prototype through platforms like InVision and soliciting user feedback prior to entering the development cycle would have been immensely beneficial. This lesson, while gained through experience, is one that I am determined to carry forward into my future projects.

The essence of this lesson lies in recognizing the profound impact of designing both micro and macro interactions. Providing users with a preview of the application’s look and feel before the coding and launch phases can significantly enhance the overall user experience. The DBM International website development process allowed me to delve into the intricacies of analyzing the cognitive load on first-time users when encountering a new product. The focus shifted towards simplifying the end-user experience, a crucial aspect that has become an integral part of my approach to subsequent projects. This journey not only refined my technical skills but instilled a deeper understanding of the user perspective and the importance of a user-friendly design in creating a successful digital product.
